Smart mattresses and quality sleep: what changes — and what stays the same
Sleep stopped being considered “wasted time” long ago. Today it is recognised as a foundation of health, mood and productivity — and the market reflects this. The global mattress industry is growing steadily, with technology promising a “smart”, personalised sleep. At the same time, however, the fundamental principles of proper rest remain unchanged.
A growing market
According to recent data, the global mattress market is currently valued at 46–50 billion dollars and is projected to reach 80 billion by 2035. In the hospitality sector in particular, demand for quality mattresses is expected to almost double — from 7 to 12.7 billion dollars. It is no coincidence: 68% of buyers say that sleep quality is the decisive factor when choosing a mattress.
The main types of mattresses
Despite the innovations, the market still relies on proven technologies: memory foam mattresses hold around 40%, followed by Bonnell springs at 30%, natural latex at 18% and hybrid constructions at 12%. Each technology answers different body and sleep needs — which is why the right choice is always a personal matter.
What “smart” mattresses are
Smart mattresses incorporate sensors that monitor sleep, record movement and body posture, and adjust firmness and temperature per side of the bed. The most advanced models use artificial intelligence that “learns” the user’s habits and offers personalised suggestions through mobile apps. The direction is clear: sleep is becoming measurable and personalised.
Technology can measure sleep. It cannot, however, replace proper anatomical support.
What does not change
Behind every sensor and every app, the essence remains the same: a mattress must, first of all, support the spine correctly, distribute weight evenly and “breathe”. No app can substitute for the quality of the materials, the anatomical design and the careful construction.
At Chic Strom, since 1962, this is precisely the principle that guides every mattress we make. We combine Greek know-how and tradition with modern, anatomical materials, so that rest starts where it truly counts — proper support of the body. Because the “smartest” sleep is, in the end, the healthiest one.
